Cenacle of Prayer

The Cenacle of the Marian Movement of Priests is held each Wednesday after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. The prayer time is divided into two sessions: First is our Prayer Cenacle (as outlined in our cenacle guide provided at church) which includes recitation of the Rosary, several other prayers, reading of a message taken from the book, To the Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons, (see note below) and Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. During Part 2 we recite the “Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary” and the “Chaplet of Divine Mercy”.

Once a year regional cenacles are held in our area (usually at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Nanaimo). Information pertaining to the regional cenacle is sent to the registered members of the Marian Movement of Priests. Anyone (not only priests) may join, but whether one is a member or not, it is necessary to understand the characteristic commitments of its spirituality. Father Gobbi says that there are three commitments which characterize the spirituality of the Marian Movement of Priests. They are:

  1. Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary;
  2. Unity with the Pope and with the Church united to Him;
  3. Observance of God's commandments.

A little history of Father Gobbi is given on the back of the book, To the Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons and it is written as follows: “Fr. Stefano Gobbi was born on March 22. 1930, in Dongo, Italy, north of Milan and is a member of the Company of St. Paul. He holds a doctorate in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of the Lateran in Rome.

It was on May 8, 1972 while praying at the Chapel of the Apparitions at Fatima that the Mother of God impressed upon Fr. Gobbi her desire that he start the Marian Movement of Priests. Reassured by an unmistakable sign that it was God’s will, and with the approval of his spiritual director, he and two other priests launched the Movement on October 13, 1972. It was exactly 55 years since the stupendous miracle of the sun at Fatima had underlined the importance and urgency of the message Our Lady had been commissioned to bring to earth.

From a very humble beginning, the Movement has spread throughout the entire world. The book, To the Priests, Our Lady’s Beloved Sons, contains “interior locutions,” messages which Fr.Gobbi has been receiving from Our Blessed Mother since 1973. It is the instrument chosen by Our Lady to carry her voice to the hearts and souls of her beloved children, a guide for helping them to live the consecration to her Immaculate Heart. In it she manifests her maternal plan to lead all souls back to Jesus.”

There is a thorough explanation in the preface of the book, To the Priests, Our Lady’s Beloved Sons regarding origin, spread, spirituality, and theological criteria for an understanding of the book. In the section of the book called “Note from the Spiritual Director” (near the beginning of the book), it is recommended that a meditated reading of the whole introduction (preface) be made for an exact and balanced interpretation of the messages.

The Marian Movement of Priests Cenacle is time well spent. As Mary has revealed in one of her messages through Father Gobbi, “These are the times of conversion and of return to the Lord. As a Mother, I am taking you by the hand and leading you along the road of goodness, of love and of holiness.” (Message #382d)

Note: The book, To the Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons, contains almost 25 years of Mary’s messages to Father Gobbi (through the phenomenon of interior locutions). The first message is dated July 7, 1973, and the last message is dated December 31, 1997.
